Low external noise tire labeling system
Low external noise tire labeling system
1. What is the low noise tire labeling system?
In order to address the issue of tire noise and contribute to improving the roadside environment, the automobile tire industry has undertaken a voluntary initiative to designate tires that meet the external noise standards set out in UN R117-02 *1 as "low external noise tires," and to promote the spread of low external noise tires by establishing a labeling system.
This system applies to commercially available summer and winter tires for passenger cars, light trucks, and trucks and buses.
- It will begin operation in January 2023.
- Tires that meet this standard are labeled as "low external noise tires" and an icon representing this is displayed.
*1 Technical standards established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as a measure to reduce tire noise
